Washington DC launch
Elaine Kamarck of the Brookings Institution generously hosted a DC party for At Least We Lived on October 23. Forty friends, including Washington journalists, writers and politicos, helped to celebrate the publication over drinks at the gracious Kennedy-Warren building.
In my remarks, I mention my mother flying on Concord to visit us in DC in 1987 - very different from her 1943 flights over the Hump into China.
It was wonderful to see friends such as best-selling authors Walter Isaacson (pictured) and Evan Thomas.
As well as Georgetown book group friends, Cecilie, Marianne and Andrea.
Visiting from London, though a native of DC, Lisa Buchan has just submitted her fascinating thesis on aviation in China to the University of Exeter.
I couldn't have managed without the help of Roxie, elder daughter and website designer, and Mike, husband and editor.
Mike and our old friend Elaine Kamarck chat before guests arrive.
